Deleting your data

EarthCape has no user accounts. Everything you record — observations, species records, GPS tracks, photos, audio notes, project settings — is stored on your device only. EarthCape Oy does not receive it and does not store it, so there is no account to close and no server-side copy for us to erase. You delete your data yourself, and it is gone.

1. Delete an individual record

Open the observation, survey visit, locality or attachment in the app and choose Delete. It is removed from your device immediately, together with any photo or audio file attached to it.

2. Delete everything

Either of these permanently removes all EarthCape data from the device:

3. Delete backups you created

If you used Backup & Restore to save a copy to your own Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, that backup lives in your storage account and is not affected by uninstalling the app. Delete the EarthCape backup file from that service to remove it. EarthCape Oy has no access to it.

4. Delete records you exported elsewhere

If you published or pushed observations to iNaturalist, GBIF, Zenodo or Strava, those copies belong to your account on that service. Delete them using that service's own tools. EarthCape Oy cannot delete records held by a third party on your behalf.

What is deleted, and what is kept

Requests made while using the app

To show weather at your position the app sends your coordinates to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (api.met.no). Map, species-lookup and place-search requests reach their providers in the same way. These requests carry no account identifier, because the app has no accounts, and they are not stored by EarthCape Oy. Each provider may keep ordinary server logs under its own policy. The privacy policy lists every request the app can make.
